TURKIYE KAGIT SANAYII 2006 Competitiveness” is the key word in to day’s world. Because power relations among the countries are no longer determined by military might but economic weight. Nations have to respond effectively to the circumstances created by the new global economic competition. Global competition is now carried out on company level rather than the country level. Hence, a country’s competitive capacity is subject to it’s enterprises ability to compete on global level. Due to this issue, businessman, bureaucrats and politicians have to unite in a joint effort. In terms of the paper industry is probably the only industry where everybady is aware of competitors manufacturing costs. This cost transparancy has driven companies to make strategic decisions solely based on their relative cost position on the global market. Because, customers are currently unwilling to pay extra for a batter products. Concequently capacity advantages are no longer effective sufficiently for the cmpetitieness. Leighwreight products have been given customers more adventages in terms of cost reduction. Any company can be moved on or make decision within these two alternatives; either it is shifting capacity to be able to produce with very low cost, or it will be competing with the lightweight production. The winner is the one that can sell lowest price in longest. Medium and long-term objectives should be to support global competitiveness of Turkish private sector and stable growth to Turkish economy. Erdal SÜKAN President Turkish Pulp and Paper Foundation |
