Essity and Fotografiska launch “Hand to Hand” exhibition with Paul Hansen

On September 27, the “Hand to Hand” exhibition will open at Fotografiska (the Museum of Photography) in Stockholm with pictures taken by the internationally award-winning photojournalist Paul Hansen. This will be the second time Essity and Fotografiska present a joint exhibition aimed at highlighting how hygiene and health affect people’s well-being.

Paul Hansen’s images are mainly taken from situations in the world characterized by catastrophes and conflicts, but also from other settings. The need for good hygiene and water is crucial for people’s health, particularly considering the growing problem of multidrug-resistant bacteria. 

“Through Essity’s various partnerships, we are pursuing a global dialogue to highlight the importance of hygiene and health and their link to well-being. Paul Hansen’s powerful images at Fotografiska underline its importance, regardless of where you are in the world,” says Magnus Groth, President and CEO of Essity.

The collaboration with Fotografiska and the “Fotografiska For Life” platform is being conducted within the framework of Essity’s “Essentials Initiative”, where the company is raising issues about how hygiene standards can be improved around the world. Essity is partnering with the United Nations Foundation and the UN’s Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), among others.

“The ‘Fotografiska For Life’ exhibitions highlight important social issues. Through ‘Hand to Hand’, we wish to shed light on the importance of hygiene and health at a time of multidrug-resistant bacteria. The exhibition also contains images by the documentary photographer Åsa Sjöström, who has followed students at a school in the UK to portray an ongoing initiative where children learn at an early age the importance of personal hygiene. 

“Hand to Hand” will be on display at Fotografiska in Stockholm until December 16, 2018.

Toscotec partners with Chemitex-Egypt to increase sales in Egypt.


Toscotec signed an agency agreement for both its Tissue and Paper & Board divisions with Chemitex Egypt for Trading & Agencies, S.A.E. to increase its sales in the Egyptian market, where it recently landed a number of P&B rebuilding orders.

Toscotec entrusted Sameh Habib, founder and owner of Chemitex-Egypt, with the agency. Habib has fifteen years of sales experience in the tissue and paper industries in Egypt.

Following the deal with Toscotec, Habib said, “The Egyptian paper and tissue market has a high growth potential. Toscotec’s technology fits very well in this market for its strong focus on customization and flexibility, paired with energy reduction.Building on our customer portfolio and the relationships of mutual respect, trust, and cooperation we established, we expect to see promising results in the coming years”

Sulzer inaugurates new manufacturing site in Poland


Sulzer inaugurated a new manufacturing site for Applicator Systems products in Wrocļaw, Poland. Strong growth in the adhesives and dental segments, for which Sulzer markets products commercially under the brand Mixpac, required additional production capacities. The new site will generate more than 100 new jobs.

The new site with 6’300 m2 of manufacturing space is Sulzer’s new hub in the heart of Europe for cartridges and mixers for adhesive customers around the world. The new site will significantly increase the production capacity for adhesives systems of the Sulzer Applicator Systems division. Sulzer chose Wrocļaw because the city offers a strong business environment, a large talent pool and great infrastructure for logistics.

The leased, made-for-purpose manufacturing facility required an investment of about PLN 10 million (close to CHF 3 million) for state-of-the-art injection molding and assembly machines.

This new site will allow Sulzer’s production facility in Haag, Switzerland, to reallocate capacity to its focus on products for the dental and healthcare markets. Sulzer recently strengthened its position in these markets with the acquisitions of Transcodent and Medmix.
Sulzer’s CEO Greg Poux-Guillaume said : “This investment in additional manufacturing capacity confirms our belief in the strong prospects of our Applicator Systems adhesives, dental and healthcare segments.”

Major PulpEye order from Iggesund

PulpEye received its second biggest order ever when Iggesund paperboard bought two complete PulpEye sets, one for the unbleached and one for the bleached pulps. Both PulpEye cabinets are equipped with modules for online analysis of kappa number, brightness, fibre, shives and fibre wall thickness as well as the dot analyser DotEye. The order also comprises two ScreenEye, two LabEye and one RMEye. 

”I am very happy that we, in stiff competition, have landed our second biggest order ever,” says Öjvind Sundvall, MD at PulpEye. “By equipping both PulpEye cabinets with a number of modules as well as one ScreenEye in each fibre line, Iggesund has good opportunities to make sure that the pulp quality will be of even higher quality and consistency, which will be beneficial to their exclusive board.”

Iggesund replaces an old kappa number analyser with new technology to measure fibre quality in a new way to be able to follow wood raw material variations in a better way. The fibre wall thickness module is a very new technology for characterisation of pulp. Thanks to this comprehensive investment even better possibilities have been created to follow the fibre from wood yard to board mill in order to achieve an even more consistent board quality.

ScreenEye is a sampler which is put in the blow line, screening the pulp in two steps and pre-washing it before it is transported to the analyser. Online dot measurement by DotEye shows the pulp cleanliness in real-time and possible disturbances are immediately detected and can be dealt with.

”Iggesund’s bleached SBB board Invercote is well-known for its high quality and is used in packaging in different premium segments all over the world,” says Malin Ekroos, Pulp Manager, Iggesund Paperboard. “When we decided to invest in new technology for measuring different quality parameters our choice, after careful evaluation, was PulpEye as their technology enables online measurements of the pulp parameters that are important to us.”

Iggesund Paperboard produces ca 420,000 tonnes bleached long- and short-fibre pulps as well as ca 350,000 tonnes of Invercote annually.

Pro-Gest invested in Web Monitoring Systems in Cartitalia and Cartiera di Carbonera paper mills

Procemex Ltd was recently awarded a contract to Cartitalia and Cartiera di Carbonera paper mills in Italy for a delivery of two Web Monitoring Systems. Commissioning will be in October 2018. This new system will substantially increase quality monitoring and decrease web break times and therefore improve Pro-Gest Group’s positioning at the market.

European Carton Excellence Award 2018: the Winners

The prizes for the best cartons of the European Carton Excellence Award have now been awarded ! Outstanding designs and functional solutions were honoured at the ECMA Congress Award Gala on 20 September – in the glamorous setting of the House of the Riga Latvian Society.

The impressive city of Riga on the Baltic, at the mouth of the Daugava River, is known for its historic buildings, Art Nouveau architecture and medieval centre. The perfect background for an enchanting celebration. The leading heads of the European cartonboard and carton industry gathered to recognise the most creative ideas in the industry.

On the Pro Carton website you can find all the winning designs well as photos and video interviews with the prize winners immediately after the award ceremony. “In every category, I can state that the judges saw design, construction, structure and graphics that really made an impact and set carton board far away and above any other material”, stated Satkar Gidda, Chairman of the jury, from the international brand consulting agency SiebertHead.

Carton of the Year 2018 is “Moët 6 Mini Moët pack” by Van Genechten Packaging. It contains six Mini Bottles of Moët Imperial and six Mini Golden Flutes. The jury’s comments : “The moment we opened the box, it was like opening a box of treasure ; the way the products were presented and the way the internal carton was structured. Spectacular !”

This year, the categories were revised to better reflect the market sector shares and to recognise structural creativity as much as the packs’ aesthetic qualities.

“The range of creative and sustainable solutions that cartons can offer is clearly demonstrated by the winners and finalists of the European Carton Excellence Award”, said Pro Carton President Horst Bittermann. “Every year I am impressed by this successful industry event.”

Deconsolidation of Venezuelan Operations

Smurfit Kappa Group plc and a wholly-owned subsidiary Smurfit Holdings BV confirm that due to the continuing actions and interference of the Government of Venezuela, SKG is no longer able to exercise control over the business of Smurfit Kappa Carton de Venezuela in Venezuela.

SKCV has been providing goods and services to its customers in Venezuela for almost 65 years giving employment today to almost 1,600 direct employees and generating more employment indirectly. During that time, the Company has operated to the highest business and ethical standards, invested significant amounts of capital in its business, developed a highly progressive Corporate Social Responsibility program and dedicated significant financial support and resources to the education and health of the less privileged members of the communities in which the Company operates. Three weeks ago, nine of the ten Company unions confirmed their support and desire to continue working with SKCV as a result of its good labour practices and compliance with local laws and regulations.

SKG previously reported that the Government of Venezuela took temporary control of the Company pursuant to an order that was notified on 28 August 2018. Following receipt of the Occupation Order, SKG confirmed that it was impossible for SKCV to manage its affairs in a way that complies with its normal business standards and confirmed that as of 28 August 2018, SKCV was no longer responsible for the use of its installations, machinery and equipment, its employees’ safety, that of its surrounding communities, any environmental impact, or the quality of the paper and packaging manufactured in the operations.

Since the notification of the Occupation Order, the Company has been subject to Government interference, including through the arbitrary harassment of its employees by the Directorate General of Military Counterintelligence (or DGCIM) through unauthorised visits which have the effect of intimidating the Company’s workforce resulting in increasing absenteeism. In addition, the Government of Venezuela has arbitrarily arrested two of the Company’s employees, whose immediate and full release is being actively sought through all available means.

In light of these circumstances, and in order to protect the interests of its stakeholders and mitigate operating risks, SKG has notified the Government that full responsibility for the Company’s operations and compliance with all applicable regulations have passed to the Venezuelan State from the date of the notification of the Occupation Order, namely, since 28 August 2018.

SKG and SKCV reserve all of their rights with regard to the Venezuelan Government’s actions and any subsequent State measures under Venezuelan and international law including, without limitation, the right to initiate international arbitration proceedings to protect the interests of its stakeholders and seek compensation for Venezuela’s unlawful measures.

As a consequence of the loss of control over SKCV, the Group will deconsolidate its Venezuelan operations in the third quarter of 2018, resulting in a write down of net assets of approximately €60 million for the Group. As noted in the Group’s 2018 half year results, SKCV represented less than 1% of the Group’s EBITDA in the first six months of 2018.

Successful start-up of the Yibin Paper TM2-iDEAL® Tissue Machine

A.Celli Paper celebrates with great enthusiasm the start-up of the TM2-iDEAL® Tissue machine.

The TM2-iDEAL® Tissue machine at Yibin Paper was successfully started-up on September 15, 2018, after an intense period of installation and commissioning. The TM2 is designed for a design speed of 1800m/min, an operating speed of 1600 m/min, and an untrimmed roll width of 2850 mm.

The scope of supply for the tissue machine consists of an Approach Flow system, acomplete set of Cresent Former tissue machines, a MCS control system, an Air system and a Dust Removal system.

The start-up and subsequent running-in all went smoothly. Yibin expressed great satisfaction with the result and were also very praising of A.Celli’s professional work.

The TM2 which was successfully started-up was the first in a big order for five sets of iDEAL® Tissue machines. The remaining four sets are scheduled to be started up by the end of 2018.

By that time, the production capacity of tissue paper will be 120,000 tons/year.

Southeast Asia’s biggest packing manufacturer upgrades to latest version of X-Trim and opt-Studio

SKIC is the biggest manufacturer in Southeast Asia with a production of 2.3 million tons of packaging paper annually. Greycon first got involved with SKIC in 2006 when it was contracted to provide scheduling and slitting optimisation in it mills in Thailand. Because of the benefits SKIC has achieved in improved trim, scheduling and machine utilization, visibility, delivery time of orders and supply chain optimisation, SKIC included two new sites to the original project scope. The system is integrated fully with SAP.

BOBST continues to invest in its Lyon site

In late June 2018, Bobst Lyon in France broke ground on a new commercial building at its Bron site. It will be used by the company’s entire administrative staff as of early 2020.

The new 177-meter long facility is designed in a pure and contemporary architectural style, in line with BOBST’s corporate identity. This innovative three-level building is designed to promote communication, interaction and creativity within the organization across its 10,200 square meters of office space. Glass façades will provide employees with excellent natural lighting, and the building envelope will offer a high thermal performance. The culmination of a joint consultation process between the architecture firm, works council and staff committees, the interior layout will include a variety of workspaces that meet 21st-century standards for collaborative work.

“Our packaging machines are high-tech products manufactured in a rigorous industrial environment that requires continuous contact between the production workshops, R&D engineers and installation teams,” says Emmanuel Roquet, Chairman of Bobst Lyon. “Having a manufacturing facility that brings together all the company’s services at a single site will help rationalize our structure and enhance efficiency.”

Landscaped space and biodiversity
The project includes plans for the development of a 1,000 square meter pond with a diverse ecosystem, a wooded area with a forest containing 860 oak and maple trees, and tree-covered parking.

The construction of this administrative building is the third and final phase of BOBST’s site renovation project at Lyon. These investments in the future are going into improving company infrastructure (consolidation of manufacturing and logistics businesses and a new commercial building) and developing employee expertise through the Competence Center. Completed in June 2018, this showroom is where customers can come and see full production lines in real operating conditions. BOBST engineers and technicians will also use the Competence Center for training and developing new, innovative machines.

Bobst Lyon has been active in the Lyon region since 1923. With its 750 employees, the company manufactures high-tech packaging machines that combine in-line flexo, die-cutting and folding-gluing processes, and produces corrugated board cases in a single run at a speed of up to 33,000 boxes per hour.

Palm invests €500 million at its head office in Aalen-Neukochen

Palm, Germany’s largest family owned business in the paper industry, is planning a huge investment in Aalen-Neukochen to secure the long term future of this site.

A new paper machine with a capacity of 750,000 tons per year will replace three existing smaller machines. The investment will provide for a new raw material and finished goods warehouse, a CHP power plant and an effluent treatment plant. The investment will compliment the environmental, logistics and infrastructure projects of the whole region.

The implementation period will be between 2019 and 2022.

Canfor Pulp Announces Extended Production Outage at Northwood Pulp Mill

Canfor Pulp Products Inc. announced today that it will extend its scheduled maintenance outage on one production line at its Northwood Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft Pulp mill located in Prince George, British Columbia. The outage is to enable necessary tube replacements to its No. 5 recovery boiler to rectify damage discovered during routine preventative maintenance inspections.
Based on a preliminary review, the Company currently estimates that the extended downtime will be approximately 70-80 days with a reduction in production of NBSK pulp of 60,000-70,000 tonnes, as well as higher associated maintenance costs. Canfor Pulp will continue to operate the second production line at the Northwood Pulp mill over this period. Due to the mitigation efforts by Canfor Pulp, the temporary outage is not expected to have a material
impact on the financial condition of the Company.

The new spreader roll workshop is ready to serve customers in the pulp, paper, board and tissue industries as of October 2018.

Valmet to supply new winding technology for Papier- u. Kartonfabrik Varel in Germany


Valmet will supply new winding technology and surrounding equipment for Papier- u. Kartonfabrik Varel GmbH & Co. KG in Germany. The existing winder will be replaced with this new winder to meet the increasing line production of paper machine PM4. The start-up is scheduled for the beginning of 2020.

The order is included in Valmet’s third quarter of 2018 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The total value of an order of this type is typically around EUR 5-10 million.

"We needed a reliable and high-capacity winder for our upcoming production capacity increases. Valmet’s two-drum winder with Dual Unwinding technology were answers to these needs. Especially, the Dual Unwinding technology was a must to get to the required capacity level," says Thomas Müller, General Production Manager of Papier- u. Kartonfabrik Varel. "Papier u. Kartonfabrik Varel is a medium-sized family owned business. We produce cardboards and corrugated papers for our customers in the packaging industry on the basis of waste paper using state-of-the-art, highly available and reliable technologies. We were convinced of the large number of Valmet’s references of both two-drum winders and Dual Unwinding," he continues.

Valmet’s delivery for the new high-capacity winder area will include an OptiWin Drum two-drum winder with transfer rails, a parent roll turning table, a reel rebuild and an OptiSlush Broke pulper. The winder is equipped with a Dual Unwind two-unwind system. This feature makes it possible to change the parent roll in only one minute giving the winder more capacity. The Dual Unwind sequence is fully optimized and independent of a crane.

The winder with a web width of 5,600-mm will be designed for recycled testliner grades with a basis weight range of 100 - 280 g/m2. The production speed will be 2,700 m/min.

The recognition was addressed to only 34 global companies at the Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York on 24 September 2018.

"Being among the 34 world’s leading companies in sustainability is an outstanding recognition for the work UPM has done in the area of responsible business conduct," says Pirkko Harrela, Executive Vice President, Stakeholder Relations, UPM. "We have had the LEAD status since January 2016 when we were invited for the first time to this distinguished network as the only forest industry company and also as the first Finnish company ever," Harrela continues.

UPM has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact initiative since 2003 and is strongly committed to responsible business conduct. "We have a strong basis to promote the core values of the Global Compact Ten Principles covering human rights, labour standards, environment and anti-corruption," Harrela says.

The recognised LEAD companies include companies like Unilever, Nestle S.A., BASF SE and L’Oreal.

To be eligible for LEAD recognition, companies are expected to be a participant in at least two Global Compact Action Platforms. They also need to demonstrate engagement with the initiative and commitment to defining and fostering leadership practices in line with the Global Compact Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, the companies are to report on their progress on implementing the Ten Principles on annual basis.

UPM has participated in two Action Platforms : Reporting on the SDGs and Decent work in global supply chains. PAPELEIRA COREBOARD acquires a Pasaban BM 2600 Winder

Papeleira Coreboard S.A., a company that produces 220 tons per day of cardboard for the paper core and angle manufacturing industry, has acquired a BM 2600 Paper Winder as part of its machinery and facilities upgrade project. 

Papeleira Coreboard is part of a group that includes Spiralpack and the paper core manufacturer Cicarsa. After a period of heavy investments to optimize their manufacturing process, they have become the benchmark for recycled paper in Portugal. 

With the cardboard production machine upgraded, the Pasaban BM winder contributes significantly to meeting the objectives set by the company : to produce and convert safely and efficiently 220 tons per day of recycled cardboard. 

The winder is an off-line pope winder equipped with 39 automatically positioned slitters. It converts the cardboard produced by the main PM into narrow reels that will later be used to make “Coreboard” and “Coretissue” cardboard cores. And it has the capacity to process 180 to 700 gsm cardboard at an operating speed of 1500 m/min.

The arbitration proceedings between Valmet and Suzano Papel e Celulose S.A. have ended


Valmet announced on September 16, 2016, that Suzano Papel e Celulose S.A. had filed a request for arbitration against Valmet Celulose, Papel e Energia Ltda, Valmet AB and Valmet Technologies Oy, subsidiaries of Valmet Oyj, claiming approximately EUR 80 million. Valmet disputed the claims brought by Suzano and pursued claims of its own against Suzano.

The parties of the dispute have now reached an agreement and the arbitration proceedings have been closed. The outcome of the agreement will not have significant impact on Valmet’s financial result for 2018.

Valmet to supply web monitoring systems to Shanying Huazhong Paper in China

Valmet has received orders for next-generation web monitoring systems from Shanying Huazhong Paper Industry Co., Ltd. in China. The full-scale Valmet IQ Web Monitoring Systems will be installed on two paper machines at the company to improve and maintain machine productivity.

The orders were included in Valmet’s first and second quarter 2018 orders received. Typically, the order value of these kinds of automation system deliveries is below EUR one million.

Authorization of the Board of Directors to resolve on a share issue

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has on July 23, 2018 signed an agreement to acquire Expera Specialty Solutions, a U.S. based specialty paper producer, to expand its presence in North America and further strengthen its offering of advanced custom-made fiber based materials. The purchase price payable is USD 615 million (EUR 526 million) on a cash and debt free basis, subject to an agreed post completion adjustment. The Transaction has been described in more detail in the Company’s stock exchange release published on July 23, 2018. The completion of the Transaction is expected during the second half of 2018.

To finance part of the Transaction, Ahlstrom-Munksjö plans to conduct a share issue of approximately EUR 150 million, which is expected to be launched during the fourth quarter of 2018.

The EGM authorized the Board of Directors to resolve on the issuance of a maximum of 20,000,000 new shares pursuant to the shareholders’ pre-emptive subscription right (rights offering). The authorization includes the right for the Board of Directors to resolve upon the issuance of shares that at the end of the subscription period of the rights offering may remain unsubscribed for pursuant to the shareholders’ pre-emptive subscription right to parties determined by the Board of Directors (i.e. in derogation from the pre-emptive right of the shareholders). The Board of Directors is authorized to determine all other terms and conditions of the issuance of new shares.

The authorization is valid until the close of the next Annual General Meeting, however, no longer than until June 30, 2019, and it does not revoke the Company’s share issue authorization resolved upon by the Annual General Meeting held on March 21, 2018.

Fabio Perini S.p.A has obtained the prestigious ISO 50001 certification for environmental sustainability. This milestone comes after a journey started in 2012 positioning Fabio Perini S.p.A. among the most cutting-edge companies in the converting sector and beyond.

The company makes a formal statement of its focus on energy issue in the Energy Management System (EMS) document, where it officially commits itself to deploy human, financial and technologic resources to undertake a process of continuous improvement of its energy performances.

« In practice, what have we done ? To start with – says Riccardo Signorini, Maintenance and Capex Manager of Fabio Perini S.p.A.– we deployed steps that can be defined “good housekeeping” such as switching off the overhead cranes at night and using our domotics to reduce waste of electric power and heating. Additionally, through the LSS methodology, we identified the best strategy for a more efficient energy management system, bringing Fabio Perini, as early as 2016, to be awarded the “Italia in Classe A”(Italy in A Class) prize by national Energy Agency ENEA ».

Subsequently, Fabio Perini S.p.A. introduced led lights in the workshops, solar heating to obtain warm water in summer, solar films for the windows facing south and west and finally, one of the air compressors was replaced by a new generation model with inverter.

Analysts forecast that global demand for virgin fiber will grow by more than 30 million tons by 2030, and the demand for virgin corrugated materials will grow by more than 10 million tons. In 2017, China enforced a ban on the imports of a wide range of unsorted solid waste, which has triggered an increase in the manufacturing of environmentally friendly boards. The Business Plan of Ilim Group presented to the Chinese partners at the conference takes all those factors into account. Big Ust-Ilimsk is a large-scale project intended to strengthen Ilim’s positions in China through construction of a new KLB line in Siberia. The project will be completed by 2022 to allow Ilim to increase its volumes of kraftliner and other packaging materials by 600 thousand tons per year. At the same time, the Bratsk Mill of Ilim Group is implementing the second stage of the upgrade project, including an upgrade of the KLB line. By the end of 2019, the capacity of the KLB line in Bratsk will grow by more than 100,000 tons per year,.

Upon completion of the project in Ust-Ilimsk and upgrade of the Bratsk Mill, Ilim Group will become one of the largest manufacturers of unbleached packaging materials globally with a total board output of 1.5 million tons per year, bringing its aggregate production output to over 4.3 million tons per year. This will give Ilim Group a leadership advantage as an importer of both bleached pulp and packaging materials to the Chinese market. .

 ”In 2017, we delivered more than USD 1 billion worth of products to the Chinese market”, said Ilim Group CEO Kseniia Sosnina. “And we are ready to move forward. Our key investment projects are aligned with what our customers need. In 2009, our deliveries to the Chinese market reached 1 million tons, while in 2017 we hit the 1.5 million tons’ target. By 2022, we plan to increase our exports to China up to 1.9 million tons. Our strategic goal is to achieve 2.4 million tons in 2023”.

Amcor announces US$25 million capital investment, plans for workforce growth

Amcor, a global leader in high-quality flexible packaging solutions, has announced plans to invest more than $25 million to upgrade its Madison facilities starting in 2018 and into 2019 to expand capacity, improve quality and reduce waste while updating technology.

The planned investment includes the acquisition of new machinery and updates to existing infrastructure to enable expanded service offerings for customers in the medical, pharmaceutical, food and home/personal care markets.

To mark the start of the expansion, the company’s Madison Plant will host a ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 12:30 p.m. Among dignitaries on hand to mark the start of the expansion project and attendant investment will be Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, and Amcor Flexibles Americas President Tom Cochran.

“We are excited and proud to be growing in Wisconsin for our customers in North America, and to be investing in support of our winning teams and products,” said Amcor’s Mr. Cochran.

Amcor and Neenah-based Bemis announced in early August an agreement for Amcor to acquire Bemis and combine the two companies. Bemis is more than 4,500 employees in Wisconsin.

According to Amcor Flexibles Madison General Manager Timm Goodmanson, the expansion is expected to result in a close to 50 percent increase in employment at the plant.

In addition, Mr. Goodmanson said the project is also expected to bring more than 150 construction jobs to Madison spread across general contractors, subcontractors, and local and Wisconsin-based suppliers.

To fill more than 20 immediate openings, Amcor Flexibles Madison will host a job fair at the plant on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Current needs include both entry-level and highly skilled manufacturing positions. The plant is located at 4101 Lien Rd. in Madison.

Placement of Sulzer treasury shares

Sulzer has launched on September 18, 2018 the placement of up to 5 million treasury shares it acquired on April 12, 2018 from its former majority shareholder Renova.

he shares will be offered to investors in Switzerland and to institutional investors outside of Switzerland in reliance on Regulation S under the U.S. Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the Securities Act), and in the United States only to qualified institutional buyers according to Rule 144A under the Securities Act. The price of the placed shares will be determined in an accelerated bookbuilding procedure.

UBS and Credit Suisse are acting as Joint Bookrunners on this accelerated bookbuilding placement.

Essity continues the optimization of its production in the United States

To further increase the efficiency of the Professional Hygiene business, Essity is closing its converting facility in Bellemont, Arizona, United States.

The closure will be completed in the second half of 2019 without any disruption to customers. Production will be reallocated to other Essity production facilities in the United States. The measures are aligned with the company’s strategy to optimize the production footprint to improve cost and capital efficiency and further increase value creation in the Professional Hygiene business area.

The restructuring costs are expected to amount to approximately SEK 150m which is expected to be recognized as an item affecting comparability in the third quarter of 2018. Approximately SEK 30m of the restructuring costs are expected to impact cash flow.

A.Celli Paper presents the new shell in seamless steel for the Yankee Dryer

The Conference & Expo “Tissue 2018”, organised by Tappi e Risi, has been scheduled again for this year.

It will be held at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center (FCEC) in Appleton (WI) – USA between the 2nd and 5th of October.

The event brings together top-level speakers and professionals in the world of “Tissue”, and the Product Manager for the Yankee Dryer at A.Celli Paper will be taking part this time. Mr Clive Butler has prepared a speech on the patented iDEAL® FORGED YD : the possibility of making the shell of the Yankee dryer out of seamless steel.

In addition to the obvious advantages of steel over cast-iron, the seamless shell has : high manufacturing quality, greatly reduced mechanical issues and maintenance, an undisputed increase in reliability, lower consumption and enhanced operational safety. All these aspects will be covered during the conference.

An overview of the production process involved in making these shells of the Yankee Dryer will also be presented.

SCA has developed a new sustainable sizing additive to produce water resistant paper

The innovation concerns a sizing additive that SCA has developed to improve the production of water resistant, hydrophobic, paper. The additive can be produced in a green sustainable manner. The development work is still ongoing and no decisions have not been taken regarding commercialization.

With the new sizing additive it could be possible to replace the addition of commercial sizing agents in the paper production. The resulting paper exhibit improved water resistance and UV-light stability.

Since the depolymerized lignin can be produced from byproducts from a pulp mill the resulting sizing additive is sustainable and cost effective.

More about the new product
The product comprises a blend of depolymerized lignin and cationic polysaccharide which is added to a lignocellulosic pulp suspension containing aluminum salt at the wet end of the paper manufacturing process. The development work has been a collaboration between SCA R&D Centre and the Kraftliner business.

BillerudKorsnäs appoints acting Chief Financial Officer

BillerudKorsnäs announced today that Kristina Schauman is appointed acting Chief Financial Officer. Kristina will take office on November 1 2018.

As previously announced, BillerudKorsnäs current Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Susanne Lithander, is leaving her position in the company. Kristina Schauman will take office as acting Chief Financial Officer on November 1, 2018, during the recruitment of the permanent Chief Financial Officer. Since 2014, Kristina has served as a member of BillerudKorsnäs’ Board of Directors and as chairman of the Board’s Audit Committee. During the time Kristina is acting Chief Financial Officer, she will resign from the Audit Committee.

Kristina Schauman, born 1965, holds a degree in business economics from the Stockholm School of Economics and has held various financial managerial positions in Stora Enso, ABB and Investor and top executive positions in OMX AB, Carnegie Investment bank and Apoteket AB.

Photo exhibition to celebrate the anniversary

To celebrate our 150th anniversary, we have organized a photo exhibition illustrating how Metso has taken part in shaping and building the modern world.

The exhibition will feature photos, stories and insights into how the world and the industry we work with have changed over the time. The focus is on three main themes : Building urban environments, Enabling the modern way of living, and Reaching for the future. There will also be a display of the #Kivikone (Rock machine) photo competition.

The opening event will take place on Tuesday, September 18 at 16.30 - 17.30 pm at Sanomatalo’s Mediatori. Our interim CEO and CFO Eeva Sipilä will open the event, after which #Kivikone photo competition winners will be announced by nature photographer and author Kimmo Ohtonen and Metso’s Communications Specialist Pauliina Tiainen.

The Metso 150 photo exhibition is open to the public from September 18 to September 30 at Sanomatalo, Töölönlahdenkatu 2, 00100, Helsinki, Finland. The opening hours of the exhibition are 7.00 - 20.00 from Monday to Friday and 9.00 - 20.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
